Conference in the Media Centre – Citizens of Serbia on Violence

BCSP will present research findings about the potential for violence in Serbian society. In addition to the results of public opinion survey, the analysis will also include data collected by in-depth interviews and focus groups in six cities.

BCSP researcher Katarina Đokić will present unique data on citizens' attitudes toward violence, the main causes of violence and willingness to get directly involved in violence.

The research has specifically focused on the role of dissatisfaction with socio-economic and political situation, as independent variables affecting the orientation towards violence. Potential for violence will be determined through attitudes of citizens towards the activities of extremist groups, with special reference to the problem of football fans (hooligans).

The members of fan groups were active participants in the interviews and focus groups. Experiences and observations from eight focus groups in six cities and in-depth interviews with 18 participants will be presented at the conference by researcher Katarina Đokić and BCSP interns that were involved in this project.

At the conference the report from the third part of the survey, “The citizens of Serbia on security” will be presented. The survey was based on a questionnaire designed by BCSP, a representative sample of 1203 adults. Data collection on the territory of Serbia without Kosovo, was conducted by CeSID from 18th to 25th of September.

The first part of the study titled “The citizens of Serbia between the EU, Russia and NATO”, was presented on 17th of October, and the second part, devoted to the security institutions and the personal feeling of security, ’’What we fear, who protects us?’’, was presented on the 30th of October.

Due to the limited number of seats, it is mandatory for confirm participation at the conference at office@bezbednost.org
